At Alde Valley School, the History department prides itself on delivering a dynamic, engaging and rewarding scheme of work. In addition to the fundamental understanding of chronology, students develop their skills across a range of key skills, many of them transferable across the curriculum:
- Cause and Consequence
- Empathy and Diversity
- Change and Continuity
- Significance
- Working with sources
As they progress, students should develop the skills of independent historical enquiry, and are taught to communicate their findings with accuracy and precision.
The Key Stage 3 curriculum is designed to provide a stimulating mix of content and challenge. Half-termly themes (below) allow students to gain a sense of the ‘Big Picture’ of British and aspects of world history, combined with case studies offering the opportunity to pursue fascinating and complex enquiries.
