Personal Development & PSHE

Personal Development Intent

The ASPIRE Curriculum at Alde Valley Academy is designed to ensure that every student develops the knowledge, skills, character and confidence they need to thrive at school and in their future lives. It extends beyond the academic curriculum, providing a rich programme of personal development, enrichment, careers education, student leadership and co-curricular opportunities.

Underpinned by our values of Aspire and Achieve, Lead with Kindness and Stronger Together, the ASPIRE Curriculum encourages students to be ambitious, resilient and responsible members of their community. Through lessons, assemblies, clubs, educational visits, enrichment days, employer encounters and leadership opportunities, students are supported to discover their interests, broaden their experiences and develop essential life skills.

We are committed to ensuring that every student can participate fully, regardless of their background or circumstances. Our intention is that all students leave Alde Valley Academy as confident, respectful and well-rounded young people who are prepared for their next steps and inspired to make a positive contribution to the wider world.

PSHE

At Alde Valley Academy we aim to develop the knowledge, skills and attributes our students need to manage their lives now and in the future. These skills and qualities help pupils to stay healthy, safe and prepare them for life and work in modern Britain.

The intent of our PSHE curriculum is to deliver a curriculum which is accessible to all and to support our students to understand how to play a positive and successful role within our school and local community. Our Learning Journeys in KS3 and KS4 support students’ spiritual, cultural, mental and physical development with age appropriate understanding of healthy relationships, safety and sex education. We aim to provide students with knowledge of their world, locally and globally.  We want the Alde Valley PSHE curriculum to give them the confidence and resilience to be active citizens and to contribute positively to their community and to meet the challenges of the future.
