Personal Development

Personal Development Intent

At AVA we recognise that the curriculum extends beyond the academic to prepare our students for the world of work and to be a positive influence in society. We believe our values of CARE

Cooperation

Ambition

Respect

Empathy

will enable our students to develop their individual talents and broader character. We share the goal to create relevant learning opportunities inside and outside the classroom. Through our balanced, curriculum and diverse opportunities we want our students to understand the world as they grow. We aim to prepare our students to become respectful, responsible and tolerant citizens who are ready to meet the challenges of the future.

We aim to inspire our students so that they behave with integrity and cooperate well with others in the school community and society at large.. We want our students to develop so that they possess the confidence, resilience and knowledge to keep themselves mentally and physically healthy.

Our curriculum beyond the classroom includes opportunities to access a wide range of activities including the arts, culture, diversity, appreciation of the environment and sport. These opportunities allow our students to thrive within our school and provide the gateway to nurture their ambition to reach, aspire and succeed in their futures. Through fostering positive relationships, developing confidence we aim to support our students to make safe and informed decisions within modern Britain.

PSHE

At AVA we aim to develop the knowledge, skills and attributes our students need to manage their lives now and in the future. These skills and qualities help pupils to stay healthy, safe and prepare them for life and work in modern Britain.

The intent of our PSHE curriculum is to deliver a curriculum which is accessible to all and to support our students to understand how to play a positive and successful role within our school and local community. Our Learning Journeys in KS3 and KS4 support students’ spiritual, cultural, mental and physical development with age appropriate understanding of healthy relationships, safety and sex education. We aim to provide students with knowledge of their world, locally and globally.  We want the Alde Valley PSHE curriculum to give them the confidence and resilience to be active citizens and to contribute positively to their community and to meet the challenges of the future.
