Reading

Reading

National and global research has proven that there is a positive correlation between a student’s vocabulary range at age 16 and the likelihood they will succeed at school and indeed even future level of income. Moreover, reading helps relieve stress and is a very enjoyable activity. Therefore, we wish to encourage our pupils to read for pleasure and knowledge, creating lifelong readers.

At Alde Valley Academy, we have a fully-stocked library where students can borrow a range of contemporary and classic books for free. This is available at breaktimes and lunchtimes, as well as a lesson each fortnight for KS3. Likewise, we have strong connections with Suffolk Libraries; we offer every starter at Alde Valley Academy the chance to possess a library card. If you have not received an application form, please do contact Ms Smith, Head of English, at d.smith@aldevalley.suffolk.sch.uk.

We also recognise that to develop a love of reading in your child, they need to know what to read. Hence, please find below a downloadable list of recommended reading for the different school subjects.
